Level 3 Child Development (Residential Childcare)

Level 3 Understand Child Development for children & young people in residential childcare

  • Understand the development of children and young people in residential childcare  (3 credits)

 

This unit provides the knowledge and understanding required in residential childcare settings about the development of children and young people from birth to 19 years. It looks at how various personal and external factors and times of transition can influence a child or young person’s development and explores theoretical perspectives of child development and how these are applied in practice.

The unit will also help you consider different ways of monitoring children and young people’s development using different methods and means of intervention to promote positive outcomes when a ‘typical’ development pattern is not followed.

 

What this unit covers:

  • Sequence and rate of development from birth to 19 year
  • The difference between the sequence and rate of developmen
  • The impact of adolescent development on a young person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviour
  • How a young person’s development is influenced by personal and external factor
  • How theories and frameworks influence practice in a residential childcare settin
  • How to monitor children’s development using different method
  • The importance of observation within the monitoring and assessment process
  • How interventions can promote positive outcome
  • How multi-agency teams work together to address development need
  • Ways to ensure day to day activities support the development of children and young peopl
  • The importance of early identification of development issue
  • The significance of early identification of speech, language and communication delays and disorder
  • How times of transition can affect development
  • The effect on children and young people when they have positive relationships during periods of transition.

 

As this is a knowledge only unit you do not need access to a workplace to complete this course.

Once you have completed the course you will be awarded with an accredited Cache certificate.

No college attendance is required.
