The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare is the required qualification under the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a residential childcare setting, including an understanding of child and young person development.
The qualification covers birth to 25 years – the extended age range takes account of entitlements for children and young people with complex disabilities or conditions.
It will enable you to gain essential skills and knowledge to support children and young people in residential childcare settings, including: wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes.
It also offers you the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.
The minimum age of a learner to do the qualification is 18 years. You will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a residential childcare setting, as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
There will be a taught session at the college every month that all learners are encouraged to attend as this is an opportunity for us to support you in understanding each task, to gain ideas and to socialise with others on the same course.
You should expect to take approximately 12 – 18 months to complete the course. Completion can be achieved quicker depending on time, skills and commitment.
We have Apprenticeships available for those aged 19 or over!
